Artist Biography

Originally from Rochester, New York, Steve began his metalworking career at age 15 when he attended a high school welding class taught by his uncle, Stephen Ryder Stiles. After high school, his career spanned many iterations of working in the metal trades. From offshore welding in the gulf of Mexico to the titanium tubing of the B-2 stealth and F-22 fighter, Steve's career had a start with some pretty amazing and diverse projects. Always one to explore the technical side of things, Steve sought out training in NDT (nondestructive testing) and attended a two-year program in rural Hutchinson, Minnesota. While still in school he received his AWS Certified Welding Inspector certificate in addition to extensive training in ultrasonics, X and Gamma radiography, eddy current and magnetic particle inspection methods. After devoting years to companies as diverse as Boeing and Siemens medical systems, Steve says "...it's all come full circle as the professional career has fueled my iron working passion considerably". From humble beginnings in a one car garage, Steve began producing items for local street fairs. Since then, Steve's business has really taken off, growing exponentially since 1995. Lately, Steve's work has been featured in Master Building Association's and AIA award winning homes in the Seattle area.
